No account. No tracking. Your ferments stay on your device.
TL;DR: Fermento has no accounts and no tracking. Everything about your ferments — timers, batches, photos, tasting notes, history — stays on your device and is never uploaded. Two community features do reach our server, and both are anonymous: roadmap votes and article likes. They carry only what you voted for or liked, plus a random per-install identifier that exists so a vote counts once. We never learn who you are.
Your fermentation data is stored locally and is never uploaded to us:
Notification reminders are scheduled locally by your device's operating system. We do not operate a push server and cannot send you messages.
Fermento is no longer a purely offline app. Three things involve the network, and none of them require or create an account:
Reading published content: The Ideas feed, articles, and scientific sources are downloaded as public files from fermento.andrej-jasso.com (static hosting on GitHub Pages). This is an ordinary web request: we attach no identifier to it, and we do not log or analyse who fetched what.
Roadmap voting: When you vote for a feature, the server receives the feature's id and a random per-install identifier. Nothing else.
Article likes: When you like an article, the server receives the article's id and the same random per-install identifier, so the app can show a shared like count. Whether you liked something is remembered on your device, not read back from the server.
Our database is hosted by Supabase, acting as our processor. It stores nothing but those votes and likes. Individual rows are not readable by the app — it can only read aggregate counts — and there is no field anywhere for a name, an email, a location, or anything about your ferments.
Keeping a vote to one per app, without asking anyone to sign in, needs some way to tell one installation from another. Fermento uses the identifier the operating system gives an app for exactly this purpose (identifierForVendor on iOS, the app-scoped Android ID on Android).
We treat this identifier as pseudonymous personal data under the GDPR even though it identifies no one to us, and the rights in section 6 apply to it.
Fermento's assistant is not a cloud service. If you choose to download the optional model pack, the model files are fetched from Hugging Face, and from then on every question is answered by your own device.
We do not sell data, we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes, and we run no advertising.
You are in control, and the surface area is deliberately tiny:
GDPR basis: Publishing a vote or like count rests on our legitimate interest in running a community roadmap and content feed (Art. 6(1)(f)); you exercise it only by choosing to vote or like, and can withdraw it in the app at any time. No special-category data is processed, and no automated decision-making or profiling takes place.
Votes and likes are kept for as long as the feature they belong to is live, because they exist only as a running tally. Removing your like or vote deletes the record immediately. Content downloads are not logged by us for analytics; our static host and database provider keep short-lived operational logs of their own, as any web host does.
Fermento is available worldwide. Your fermentation data never crosses a border, because it never leaves your device. Votes and likes are stored with our hosting provider and may be processed outside your country; because they contain no personal details beyond the anonymous install identifier, the transfer risk is minimal, and the provider's own safeguards apply.
Fermento is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. Since there are no accounts, no profiles, and no personal data to collect, there is nothing about a young user for us to hold.
Fermento integrates no analytics platforms, advertising networks, or social media SDKs. The services it does touch are:
The app works without any of them: with no connection, everything except fresh articles, likes, and votes behaves normally.
We may update this policy as the app changes. Any update is posted at this URL with a new "Last Updated" date. This version replaces the earlier policy, which described Fermento as having no backend at all — accurate when it was written, and no longer accurate now that roadmap voting and article likes exist.
